I only rarely do helpful things for local migrant support organizations, but yesterday I was scheduled to pick someone up from an appointment and drive him home to a town not far from Worcester. He cancelled. Was it because he felt that he needed to be hunkering down? Today in Worcester ICE snatched a woman and put her into a van, and then her daughter was arrested by Worcester police. The reports didn't say what happened to the baby who was with them.

Actually snatching, jailing, and/or removing people (deportation isn't really the word that's used) are all terrible, but the cruelty behind making big splashy promises about where ICE will be is to ruin people's lives in a more subtle way - if you stay in your house so you won't be grabbed on the street, at work, in the supermarket, etc, then you won't have your job or food (for both reasons). ICE used to have a vague policy of not going to public schools or churches, but the Trump administration has loudly rejected even that small kindness.
