Like many people who regularly drive along I-84 in CT, we often stop to eat at Rein's Deli in Vernon. We're always on the way to or from somewhere, so we just eat (or take out knishes) and head on, without investigating the little shops that share the parking lot in the plaza. Today I drove there specifically to have lunch with Arthur's parents, who have been in the frozen north visiting their new great-grandson. After they left for the airport, I decided to investigate. I didn't go into most of the shops (no interest in jewelry or cigars. Peering in the window of the quilting store was enough to see that it was exactly as advertised), but I spent a long while wandering around the used book store. Somewhere between a third and and a half of the books are romance novels. They are categorized in different ways. One whole wall has them alphabetically by author. A section in the middle has them by publisher. On the back wall there are sub-genres like time travel romance and paranormal romance, the latter including a number of people-in-love-with-vampires books. There were regular general fiction, mystery, western, and other sections of the store. I was most amused by the section labeled with a big sign that said "Mysteries and Adventures by Male Authors."
