humiliation
Jun. 21st, 2011 07:24 amI guess I have had an inadequate definition in my head of "humiliation" (or humiliated). The only one I knew was related to shame or loss of self-respect,
but this one is interesting, from the Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies (!) website: "Humiliation is when you are put down and feel hurt because you deem being put down as a violation."

That helps clarify the news stories in which people refer to themselves as being humiliated after strip searches or other problems. Still, I think in a lot of those cases (such as the one following), rather than feeling shamed, what I'd be feeling is litigious.

Why should the passenger feel humiliated due to someone else's incompetence (not having the correct seat belt extension or taking the time to check on the situation)?
