Now I know that there is an International Mammoth Committee.

We recently read Ian Falconer's latest Olivia book

She laments the fact that all the girls she knows (and some of the boys) want to be fairy princesses, either in real life or for Halloween. At least she didn't say Disney princesses, although I like this ad

I was in the attic looking for something else, and came across a purple wool skirt that I've had for ages. I can't remember the last time I wore it. I'm wearing it now. I won't wear it out of the house until I figure out what to do about the many moth holes. "The Illustrated Hassle-free Make your own clothes book," which I bought in the early 70s, would probably suggest embroidering over the holes. I am not feeling that much like a hippie today. I remember that there were intricate ways of cutting bits from inside the hem and fitting them into the holes, but that is a theory to me, not a skill I think I could acquire. I'm considering blobbing glue on them, which really would make it be an indoor skirt. I'm also in the market for a way to mend the frayed pocket edges of a denim jumper. A discreet blanket stitch might actually be OK for that purpose.
