I am assuming that yesterday's bombings were perpetrated by an irate tax payer.  Arthur cautioned me not to hypothesize ahead of my data (the only datum in this case being the date).  We thought of other April events.  There really are a LOT:

feeling a little sympathetic to practitioners of security theater

There are soldiers at Alewife station inspecting bags.  Normally I hate that kind of thing, but this time I felt sympathy for the soldiers, who may think that they're doing something useful. They seemed friendly but tired.   No bag check at Charles/MGH, no bag check at Central Square on the outbound side.  There were lots of folks on the T with their marathon jackets on, answering questions from strangers about their yesterday experience.  There were two people on the bus outbound who were in the area for the marathon (she finished well before the blasts) who were eagerly on their way to the LDS temple in Belmont.  Again, questions from strangers.   Boston was her 5th marathon, after one in Colorado and three in different Utah cities. The bus driver took those facts as permission to ask the visitors about Mitt Romney.
