(butter)Fat Tuesday
Feb. 17th, 2015 12:13 pm I'm not good at making pancakes - the oil often burns, or something. I fried leftover grits (I'm sure there are recipes for this, but I just put slices of the congealed mass into a frying pan with butter), and made my usual variation on biscuits (whole wheat, and includes cinnamon, walnuts, grated cabbage & carrots, and diced fruit). I usually use apples, but substituted pears today and we agreed that it is a big plus. Definitely sweet enough to not require any sugar or syrup. Butter in the pan for the biscuit dough as well. I'm feeling a bit over-fatted right now. We don't actually fast for Lent, so over-endulging on the medieval excluded foods is a bit of a cheat, but food observance of holidays in general is good. I will also wear Mardi Gras beads today (but not eat them).
