Today Walmart announced that many of their workers will get raises, in two phases. Last week I got a phone survey (one of the things that happens with a landline) from a machine asking me questions about Walmart. I said that I don't ever shop there (I regularly drove past one on the way to South campus at UML, but the only thing I really remember buying was a pie once). It asked whether their treatment of workers was an important reason for my choice not to shop there. I said yes. I don't think my individual answer was causal, but I expect the timing is not a coincidence.
