We saw the first of the however many Peter Jackson Hobbit movies, and quit before Smaug even turned up (we saw his guest appearance on the Colbert Report, though). I learned this morning that a guy named David Killstein has edited them all down into one three hour movie, which he posted on vimeo.

It took me rather longer than 3:09 because I saw a couple of hats as worn by folks from Laketown that I decided I need to make (what's up with that impulse?), and it took me a while to capture the images. Nobody on Etsy or ravelry has made either of them, as far as I can tell. One would just require seed stitch (which I can mostly do) and sewing, but it's not as lovely as this one:

I'll need to make a pattern first, which will also be a learning experience.
Additionally, I think "The Hobbit" might be my next airplane book - even whittled down, there was a lot of stuff I didn't remember. To be fair, I think I last read it in about 1968.
