     I never read Diana Gabaldon's novels, vaguely assuming that they'd be mostly romances (not that there is anything wrong with that). Now that I think about it, that doesn't even make sense, because I liked "The Time Traveler's Wife" and "The Book of Kells" (the novel by R. A. Macavoy), both of which involved time travel and romance.    When the TV adaptation of Outlander started last year, the first episode was free online (as opposed to the rest, which required subscribing to the Starz channel). I watched it, liked it, and then forgot about it.  Last month I watched the recap of the first season when someone mentioned it

and suddenly am intrigued at the idea that they are going to try to change history (or change the future, depending on one's frame of reference) in the second season - specifically trying to prevent the slaughter at Culloden (is the beginning of the new season a nod to history? The battle was on April 16, 1745).  I am still not going to pay the extra money for Starz, but maybe I should read the books.
