Maybe it was the thunder at 4 AM, but I was awake enough to dwell on one of my odd thoughts. The expression "to make an omelet you have to break eggs" is clear in its own way. I started to wonder what the phrase (and underlying metaphor) would be if the final portion was
"you have to hard-boil eggs." The obvious beginning would be "to make egg salad" but I'm not sure what the metaphor would be.

I don't want Donald Trump to be president, but it would be intriguing to see how much farther he can go without raising any money. He has become the presumptive Republican candidate while spending a minimal amount (who pays the fees to get on the ballot? Is he still paying all his transportation out of pocket?)
I think he got too much free publicity early on, but now he is by definition news, so could he keep sailing along on just media coverage and social media sharing?
The social media thing is a mixed blessing, I suppose. There have been stories about the fact that the heavily anti-Semitic neighborhood of Twitter has many self-identified Trump supporters, even though his older daughter is Jewish by conversion (son-in-law and grandchildren by upbringing).
