getting psyched to deal with hired folks
Oct. 30th, 2017 03:12 pmThere had been signs of some creature in the downstairs, and then on Friday I could have sworn I saw a red squirrel saunter through the living room. I called the humane trap person we used years ago when we had rampaging squirrels in the basement, but he has switched to beavers. I called another company, which suggested doing a full house survey (looking for likely entrances) and then remediation. He quoted (without seeing the house) somewhere between $300 and $1900. I decided to wait and see whether other strange things happen.
We got some leakage during the mighty storm last night. It seems that a couple of shingles are loose on the roof (imagine me standing in the neighbor's yard, looking through binoculars). Before calling roofers, I will try to get myself to spend tomorrow morning shuffling items around in the attic, to try to follow the path of the water stains. What worries me is the possibility that water from the roof soaked into the pink insulation that is covered by gypsum board. If that is the case, it won't be just roofers - something will need to be done on the inside ceiling, as well.
On the other hand, it turned out that the light over the kitchen sink stopped working because the ground fault thing had tripped. I pushed the test button, and everything was fine. Much easier than waiting for the electrician, or someone like him.
