Books of 2017

I can’t figure out how to do the pretty cover collage from Goodreads, but by counting the “read” list, I see that I finished 37 books last year. I spend way more time reading stuff on the web than books. Probably that should change. I am currently about half done with Nisi Shawl’s “Everfair,” and have read a bit of the new Odyssey translation. Both of them are due tomorrow, non-renewable because other people have holds on them. I don't want to start buying books again because there is no space for them, but I did buy a marked-down home garden book from the used book shop at RDU, before it closed on Sunday. The owner is retiring, so it’s not as sad as if it went out of business otherwise, but it will leave a one fewer good places to hang out in terminal two.

In-jokes: amusing or annoying?

I signed up for CBS all access, which is the only way to watch Star trek Discovery. We have finished nine episodes. The next one doesn’t appear until next week. In episode 9, character Paul Stamets suggests to his partner that they take leave time and go see a production of LaBoheme. I smirked, because PS is played by Anthony Rapp, one of the original cast members of Rent. Then I had to explain my reaction to Arthur, so it was a distraction.
Also distracting - there is a lot of jogging around the ship. I don’t recall seeing exercise equipment otherwise. When jogging, crew members wear t-shirts that say Disco in white letters on a black background. Presumably it is short for Discovery, but is there a hidden meaning?
