We went to see "Crazy Rich Asians" over the weekend. Arthur loved it,as I knew he would - it gave him a chance to do the "I've been there" thing in Singapore (although the university wasn't shown), and he could understand tiny bits of the Mandarin. And it was fun, in a jaw-dropping way.

I felt it was a shame that Harry Shum jr. didn't dance, although I suppose me may have been in one of the scenes with lots of dancers. I don't know who did the crowd scene choreography.
My comment upon exiting the theater was that it was like a made-for TV Hallmark movie, with a bigger budget and better acting.
Now I am wondering whether I will keep applying that to most romantic movies. We watched "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peal Pie Society" on netflix, and liked it a lot, but I also had the same reaction. I don't remember thinking that when I read the book, but it's been a long time. Now I feel a need for a romantic movie without side-steps or deception or any sort of f*ck-ups in general (which have to be overcome for the right people to end up together, happily). Do they exist? An unencumbered path to true love? Does that go back to my desire for curtain fic?
