Simple pleasures
Jul. 13th, 2024 06:32 pmThe MBTA Red Line tracks are being worked on (again). There are shuttle buses replacing relevant subway trains. To make it easier in some ways, commuter rail lines that stop at one of the closed stations are free. I don't know all the details. When I was explaining my complicated plans to get home from ringing (while at lunch in the pouring rain, under a table umbrella), people pointed out that I could take the Fitchburg line train to Porter, the first stop, much closer to Alewife station (two shuttle bus stops or a long walk). This is a once every two hours train on weekends, but it was only 20 minutes from when it was mentioned until departure time, so it was an easy walk and a pleasant trip. I expect to do something like that tomorrow as well.
The timing was so good that I did an errand with friends and still made it to the public library in time to check out Anton Hur's new book before the library closed at 5 PM. Friends: "The famous translator? He has written his own novel?" I'm not sure I could name even half a dozen famous translators but some people read a lot more than I do.

I have finished up day 2 of the low fiber diet to get ready for the colonoscopy. As I was having soft white bread and vanilla ice cream for dessert, I realized that maybe I was living the dream of many, although my stomach is not entirely thrilled with the shift from lots of fiber to almost none. Two more days of low-fiber food to go. The planned treat for tomorrow is canned peaches. Day five will be clear liquids only, colonoscopy day I think is only water.
