Yesterday I mentioned that my car has a CD player.
It also has some rust

I finally took it to a body shop for an estimate. The rust is on symmetrical rocker areas (on both sides of the car). The person said this is not uncommon on old Hondas (it's a 2010 Insight). It will cost thousands of dollars. I am resigned to paying it, because I hope this car lasts until I can no longer safely drive. That's a lot to hope for, but I'm willing to keep pouring more and more money into it. It's a hybrid. I am not going to be guilt-tripped into buying an entirely electric car. I am both too lazy personally and too invested in driving my friend to her medical appointments to get rid of the car entirely at this point. (spend a moment today to be grateful for intact lungs, if you indeed have them).
Planning will be required - this will take so many hours that he suggests psyching myself up for not having the car for a month, although it will take less if the parts are available quickly. It's warm now, but in a month I might be less enthused about returning to biking. He suggested waiting until after the winter, maybe April, so that I don't start out by having salt all over the new parts. Then he looked thoughtful, and said maybe we wouldn't have winter this year anyway, and I should just do it whenever it's convenient. Even at the body shop worker level, some of the reality of our climate situation is sinking in.
