I complained earlier in the week about leaf blowers (comme toujours). I had planned to remove some, mow over some (my Laura-powered reel mower doesn't do a thorough job of mulching), and leave the rest. I didn't do any of it, but that doesn't mean that I won't. (confusing - the yard up the street with a leave the leaves sign has cleared their lawn, which admittedly is small in proportion to the whole garden area they have). I have a leaf pile in the back of the yard that I have always just left to compost. But we are in a drought, we have Red flag warnings every day, and I'm starting to worry about fires. Part of the Mass pike was closed the other day due to a wildfire in Chicopee, caused by a downed power line. Part of Prospect Park in Brooklyn burned last night in a brush fire (out now). All these dry leaves are starting to feel like a fire hazard instead of just future compost. Should I put them in leaf bags for the town composting facility instead? Goodness, *that* would be a fire, if allowed to start. I walked by there yesterday (the Minuteman bikeway goes right past it).
