I don't see well in the dark, even with some artificial light. I try not to drive at night. But for the time between now and the Solstice, it seems to be happening a lot. When I started the janggu lessons I could get home by dark, but then the clocks changed and the planet did its tilty winter thing. Four more Sundays of driving from Davis Square in the dark. In a moment of trying to be a team player of sorts, I have agreed to be in the dance studio December show (only the Friday night one, as I'll be away on the Saturday). I went to a night rehearsal last night, only a couple of miles from home, but the rehearsal and show in December are in Arlington center. I will park at the Heights and take a bus the rest of the way. I thought about attending the evening Tai Chi class tonight (also Davis Square) but the timing of the buses wasn't great and I didn't want yet another driving in the dark evening. There's a birthday party on Thursday evening that is farther and the route is unfamiliar. I will skip it, but I feel bad about that. I have already told people I will be leaving early from a Christmas eve day gathering, instead of staying past sunset. Sometimes my friend's medical appointments mean driving in the dark. Argh.
The question is whether it's time to get cataract surgery. From
matildalucet 's recent experience it sounds like a nuisance, to say the least. Would that actually make me able to drive more safely in the dark? My mother waited until she was 80, and still didn't drive at night. My father never had it done at all. I have an eye checkup in early January, so it's probably not sensible to speculate ahead of that.
