lauradi7dw: me wearing a straw hat and gray mask (anniversary)
When I woke up somewhat after 7 this morning, I checked some stuff on the phone. I have set youtube on the laptop as "no history," so while it probably tracks me, it doesn't make recommendations. The phone gives me suggestions all the time. I was so pleased with what the famous algorithm offered me that I moved the laptop onto my lap in the bed to post here about it before otherwise getting ready for the day. No internet connection. Huh. After some thought (and a suggestion from the machine itself), I was about to go plug it into the ethernet cable to see if that would work when I noticed that there was no electricity coming into the house. Back to the phone, and to the Eversource outage site. They confirmed that I was out and guessed that things would be fixed by 9. I decided to go back to sleep. Had a perturbing dream in which an electrician had come into the house unannounced and installed a TV monitor over the stairs. I was furious, even more so when he said of course I'd have to paid for it. Then he complained that I had been calling repeatedly about the fan repair, why wasn't I glad to see him? (I have been considering getting work done on the downstairs exhaust fan, but have not called IRL). I presume it has something to do with anxieties about the plumber coming tomorrow.
I kept checking the Eversource website. They kept requiring me to identify bicycles or stairs before telling me anything. Estimates of power back by 9 AM, then 10, then 1 PM, then 7 PM. Somewhat after 3 I went to the library to charge my phone and warm up, then did some errands, and got a slice of pizza. I had carefully not opened the fridge or freezer, so my previous food of the day had been heavy on processed food (like peanut butter crackers) from the cabinet.
Fruit, though, which was on the countertop.
Then the estimate turned from 7 into 9. I was using a few candles, carefully so as to not burn down the house. The power came back on briefly at about 8:30, then went off again, then eventually came back. I am unsure what to do about the freezer food - the ice cream is soft but not quite soup. The frozen spaghetti sauce stayed rock-like. There are things in between. What do I need to jettison? The expensive imported from Korea dumplings and rice balls? The soy burgers?
I am grateful for the people up on cherry picker trucks fiddling with wires and poles all day. I hope the person who crashed a vehicle into the pole in the first place is also OK, although I wish people would not do that kind of thing.

My point this morning was that I am glad youtube fed me this video, which I had not seen before even though I watch other things by this group (the dancers are not usually with them) and it's six months old. Is it because there is no English in the interview section? There is line by line translation of the lyrics.
The music starts at 1:30.

I as usual only got a very few words of the interviews, but fiddling around with wikipedia showed me that this song's title translates as "March for the Beloved," from/about the Gwangju Uprising in May 1980. This video was released last May but presumably has had a surge in views due to the recent events.

So Youtube knew what I would like even though I didn't know to ask for it (or told me to like it, in a sneaky psychological way). They really haven't figured out what to advertise to me, though. My most common recent ads (in addition to the perpetual insurance ones) have been for a fancy restaurant that seems to tout its steak and wine. You got the wrong viewer, guys.
