lauradi7dw: (in the shire)
Almost a year ago I wrote about trying mindfulness meditation, using a youtube channel.

I didn't do it for long, and had mostly forgotten about it. I work on controlled breathing as part of Tai Chi and jogging, so that's part of my regular life, but I hadn't tried it for an emotional state in a while.
After all this time, I can still occasionally be triggered into body symptoms about Arthur. This afternoon I briefly wondered whether crying would help, and then without thinking much about it, I started careful rhythmic breathing. After a while I was back to normal. Maybe I'll set aside a daily time. ("as if," one is tempted to say).

When we last discussed the furnace, the repair person was confident that cleaning it fixed things. Well, for a day and a half. Since then I've been pushing the reset button once a day. It's their busiest time of the year, so any appointment I could get had an eight hour arrival window. When I called on Monday I said that the only day I could do that would be Thursday (tomorrow). But today, slightly after 5 PM (their office closes at 4:30) I pushed the button and soot or something blew from the door to the burner. After some thought I flipped the emergency switch so that no power would get to the furnace, remembered that I have not replaced the broken CO monitor, and called Flo for advice. She thought it was worth paying the overtime fee if possible, rather than having the pipes (potentially) burst when it gets to 17 out tonight. The after-hours guy came and replaced a part. The radiators are warm now. I have no idea what it will cost, but I know what the plumbers charge by the hour and can consider this an investment in pipe intactness.
