Yesterday a bunch of people were sworn in as citizens, in a fancy ceremony on Lexington green.

It can be fun to have lived in the same place for a long time. I know the person who sang the national anthem, one of the speakers, and another audience member.

I hope our country (now also their country) treats them well.

Today I did another all-American thing (?) and joined Costco, a shopping place for people of many races and ages. The signing up person wanted my driver's license (which one can get without citizenship in MA, come to think of it), specifically Visa debit card (why? Fortunately I have one), and other info. The workers were willing after some discussion to take my required photo with the mask on, so I wouldn't have to remove it in the store. I was wearing a white duckbill, and I admit the brightness seemed to wash out most of the color in the picture, but they didn't re-do it. I pointed out that I will always be masked in their store, so it's the best way to ID me, and they smiled.
I don't know how often I will actually go. I will still go to the local Stop & Shop for most groceries. But in the land of big packages, I spent an unreasonable amount of time deciding between the 5 pound bag of organic oatmeal (grown in Canada) vs the 10 pound bag of the house brand, for which the unit price was half as much. Finally decided to go org.
