I think this was the third indoor professional concert I've attended in five years. I went with a person with whom I've had discussions over that time about whether streaming a concert is good enough. I always say yes, he says no, and I admitted to him that it was a very different experience. Streaming wasn't an option in this case anyway, but if it had been, I'd have watched from home, and it wouldn't have been the same. At home I would have been distracted by other things, looking up the history of the music while listening, wandering off for a snack, etc. Sitting in the seat in a darkened auditorium I just let the music wash over me. I didn't look at the program, I didn't check my watch. Just absorbed. It doesn't mean that there were no distractions - one of the violin players was singing along (or at least mouthing along). The theorbo player also played banjo. I had a very clear view of the drummer, and paid close attention to how he made some of the effects.
I was not the only person masked, but we were in a minority. I will test on Wednesday and Thursday before driving my friend to chemo.

I had parked at Alewife. It was still light when the concert ended, but by the time I got to the car it was dark and Route 2 was ankle deep in salt. That's an exaggeration, but there was a convoy of salt trucks heading up the hill, and the road was freshly crunchy. I am ready to devote parts of tomorrow to moving snow.
