we here highly resolve
Jan. 2nd, 2026 09:51 amStill thinking about Abe Lincoln, I guess.
For many years, my resolution every year was to keep a journal. I never was consistent about it on paper, and even little things like an annual list of movies watched or bellringing done fell by the wayside. Then in 2004 I started with Livejournal (which apparently is falling apart now? I haven't been keeping track) and switched over to DW when lots of other people did. I'm still sporadic about it - I went to the Harvard Art Museum (what used to be the Fogg?) last weekend, took a lot of photos, made mental notes, started composing a post, and let it drop.
In my stocking from a family gathering I got an actual paper journal with a clasp (not a lock). I have been talking about trying to have a formal budget this year. The obvious thing to do with the paper journal would be to keep a list of expenses. I am thinking of the notebook my mother kept in the early 1950s
(see my comment at https://lauradi7dw.dreamwidth.org/710633.html )
Before I got the journal, I had decided that my resolution-esque thing would be to clean the house. I do the basic hygiene stuff like wash the dishes and wipe the counter tops and scrub the toilets and bathroom sinks, but I go for long stretches without doing any dusting, and sometimes it's easier to drape clothes over stuff than to put them away. I don't do the stereotyped thing of making exercise equipment into a clothes rack because I use the rowing machine regularly, but I do hang wet t-shirts from the chin bar on hangers (by choice I do not have a dryer).
I mentioned this to Flo, pointing out that I'm the only person ever in this house so my motivation for keeping it clean is low. She was startled, but I don't know why. The only people other than me who have been in the house in the past six months have been the workers in the basement.
