One of the members of the pungmul group, in addition to being a very good janggu player, is a jazz pianist/composer/conductor. I went to hear her quartet this afternoon at the Lilypad in Inman Square. It isn't necessarily the type of music I'd seek out, but it was very good. I had one of my "keen grasp of the obvious" moments. I like recorded or livestreamed music, but today I was listening to live music in a small space and even though I was sitting in the back row, I probably was less than 30 feet away from the band, including a grand piano. I kept thinking something along the lines of it's right there and she's really playing it, or something equally silly.

I don't think that's silly at all. My entire life was spent with live music on an almost daily basis until the advent of the pandemic and I miss it desperately. Through a screen or a studio is not the same.
