After Arthur acquired cable access for the TV I mostly ignored all the extra stations, until a week or two ago, and during my break, I've become an obsessive watcher. That will have to stop very soon, but in the meantime, I've seen a lot of interesting stuff. There's a series called
the Naked Archaeologist, which a silly name - it's the archeology that's supposed to be stripped
down (jargon removed, etc), not the folks. One of his suggestions for ways to think of archeology is to go in your kitchen and look around - that's what archaeologists of the distant future will do (the way they now deal with pots and animal bones and such). He remarked that there is an island in his kitchen, but nobody ever talks about kitchen islands - it will be interpreted as an altar, and things will go on from there. It's the second bit of the little video essays here:

One of the things I always try to ask about a historical personage/time period is "what did s/he/they eat for breakfast?" I was originally inspired by this (which I knew about before it was on the web)http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/cariadoc/little_things.html
but of all of them, I really am most interested in breakfast. My day is currently somewhat frozen by breakfast thoughts - I ate hardly any vegetables yesterday, so I should probably start with them now, but it's really easier to have cereal.
