do astronauts' ears pop?

lauradi7dwI watched the shuttle landing and starting wondering. They come down very far, very fast, fairly steeply. Do their ears bother them?
It's been more than ten minutes. The little flame/flare thing from venting the hydraulic systems is still happening, and it sounds like an engine idling, which is probably one that that is happening. Supposedly it is useful in some way, but it seems like a polluting end to a bit carbon footprint mission (I almost typed "endeavor" instead of mission, but realized that it would be too much like a joke).
