anybody thinking about NAFTA lately?
May. 2nd, 2008 08:53 pmThe corn growers are. The sugar industry is. You could tie it in with the latest edition of the farm bill, which is STILL slow-poking its bloated way through Congress. In January, we were supposed start acting upon a Free Trade sweetener deal with Mexico. I can't tell whether things went according to schedule, if we're now experiencing the feared dumping of foreign sugar across our borders (or whether we're now pouring HFCS on Mexico). The more I try to figure this stuff out, the more mind-boggled I get. It's sort of a long way from nutrition, but in a practical sense, it's not. It's not as big a deal as the whole corn to ethanol fiasco, though. I'm glad that some people in the Congress are starting to reconsider.
