Hold hands
Aug. 11th, 2008 06:28 pmOn the famous Fulgham list of all I really needed to know I learned in kindergarten is:
"When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic,
hold hands, and stick together."
I wonder if that quotation was in the back of my mind, because when I watched this, the first thought I had about all that hand-holding (which I like) is that they look like a bunch of really tall kindergarten kids about to cross the street.

Maybe we need to start girls really measuring things in kindergarten. I find it irritating that the only SI unit named for a woman is the Curie (maybe).

Just before their turn, each team lines up side by side and holds hands. When their country is called, they lift their joined hands up in the air, then back down, then it's the next team's turn. The only time I watch swimming races is when it's the Olympics, so I don't know whether this is something that also happens at local meets, or the international championships every year, or whether it's something the Beijing Olympics organizers came up with, but I think it's nice.
