See today's dress a day column. Really interesting and entertaining, although I think she may have jumped to the wrong conclusion about the comment that prompted the rant

Apparently the McCain campaign folks are furious with Palin because she said that robocalls are irritating. If they want a running mate who is so tightly scripted that no sincere comments are allowed, maybe they should have found a zombie or something.

It will probably be just the two of us alone on Thanksgiving. I have (rather late) started looking at flights to faraway relatives. Probably not a good idea. Thanksgiving when Florence was a freshman we couldn't face alone-ness and went to visit Arthur's brother in Ohio and his family.
It turned out that we didn't care for the friends they had invited, and the sister-in-law knocked herself out making unnecessary vegetarian food for us (like gravy. What were we supposed to do
with carefully prepared vegetarian gravy? I dutifully put some on the mashed potatoes, but I would rather have eaten them plain).
In other travel oddities, I am seriously considering spending the night after Christmas in a 16 bed dorm room at a youth hostel in Philadelphia. It really would be the most convenient thing in terms of my other plans, but maybe I'm too old for that sort of thing.

So I'm curious, what's so odd about the s-i-l making vegetarian things for you to eat?

She was already overstressed making food for ten people and having house guests without making superfluous stuff. We had brought our usual Thanksgiving main dish (nut loaf) along with us in Tupperware on the plane and would have been entirely overfed just eating the traditional side dishes, without her extra work. I'm sure it was done with love, but our purpose in visiting was not to make her life harder (and she insisted that people not help, as well).
