The prince and his wife
Dec. 27th, 2011 11:02 amThe BBC was reporting this morning that Prince Philip has left the hospital four days after having a stent put in secondary to chest pain. The announcer said "the prince and his wife will have to decide whether this affects the plans for the Queen's diamond jubilee." I thought that was a surprising turn of phrase. His wife is Queen Elizabeth II, and I suspect (without bothering to look it up) that it violates protocol not to mention her first, or something. In one of his documentaries, Prince Edward referred to her as "Her Majesty, my mother."
Part of the point of having a stent is that it is supposed to fix your arterial stenosis problem, so there is no reason he shouldn't be participating in next summer's festivities, but I thought it was kind of sweet to talk about it in a family-style way. I also was also pleased that despite the fact that "his wife" is one of the richest people on the planet, his procedure was done at the local NHS hospital.
