Democratic primaries
Feb. 11th, 2016 11:01 am I didn't know exactly what to title this. When I sent much of it to a friend, I said that I still believe that misogyny will determine the outcome, but that's not all that is going on.
I'm still undecided about my upcoming primary choice, but I agree with pretty much everything in this article. Warning - all caps and lots of swear words.

On the other hand, Gloria Steinem and Madeleine Albright should just shut up.

I tend to be a grudge-holding person. I am still mad at Hilary for voting to invade Iraq. (I was opposed all along, and I'm still mad at John Kerry, who also voted to invade, despite my daily phone calls to his office at the time). I am mad that Bernie voted against the Brady bill. Arthur says I should give them some slack for seeing more perspectives in the time since.
Despite all the worries about anti-Semitism, it seems to me more likely that a Jew would be elected in the US before a woman would be. I don't think it has happened before - I read a thing this morning claiming that Abraham Lincoln (and his whole family) might have been secretly Jewish. I hope it was meant to be humor, because as history goes, there were no citations of any sort, except for a quotation about his favorite part of the Bible being the Ten Commandments. But it's interesting to me that in a country where many people agree with Ted Cruz that Christianity should be the official religion (Constitution? What Constitution?), none of the media people (or the Republican hopefuls) have made anything of Sanders's ethno-religious background. Only a couple of exceptions that I know about - last week's SNL skit referenced it, and there was an awful Diane Rehm interview in which she repeatedly pressed him to admit his (non-existent) ties to Israel, but that's all I can think of. I've been totally dismissive of DR since then, as it turned out that her background information
was taken from something someone posted on FACEBOOK (speaking of all-caps), and nobody did any fact-checking on it before the interview.
