There is a dead Blue Jay in my front yard. It's in a not-much-grass area, so I didn't mow that sector. I emailed a friend asking if I'm supposed to report it. She said that "Mammal-biting mosquitoes carrying West Nile were found in Arlington last week" so it's past the point that anybody would want to check the bird for it. It could have died of something else, of course. But it could be that. Some neighboring towns are spraying to get rid of mosquitos. I sometimes DEET myself up, although I forgot yesterday when I was out for the day. I only got one bite, and am not sick yet.
I guess I should protect myself and carefully bag up the corpse and put it in the garbage can? It's a week until the next time it would be collected.
I have let the summer pass without clearing last winter's nut casings out of the garage, and now it's starting to be Black Walnut season already. (for any new readers: Squirrels live in the garage, and they hoard the nuts).
