lauradi7dw: (covid olympics)
I had a dry (not painful throat) and a lot of fatigue this morning (not so much that I didn't wake up at the normal time - a full bladder and sunrise are still real things). I decided to test before going to run. Positive.

I have no known exposure*, so I can't tell how long it's been incubating, unless it was the friend who tested negative on Tuesday and decided her symptoms were from Ragweed pollen. Or maybe it's the 30 seconds I had my mask off in the Charlie Card service center on Friday? (a post for another time). Main symptom is the fatigue, and I am sitting up instead flopped over, so that could be worse. Normal temperature, no cough yet, no GI stuff. Smelly things still smell. Taste seems unaffected. I have been emailing and texting around, have backed out of a couple of commitments, will presumably postpone the visit to Arthur's mother scheduled a week from now. Now I'm sorry I didn't do early voting. If you're District 3, vote for Mara Dolan for Governor's Council, please. Should I call the urgent care to ask about Paxlovid? Friends have had mixed experiences, so maybe I'll skip it.

* I've been on public transportation 5/7 days of the past week, but who can tell?

I am considering weeping, but that would only clog up my nose, through which I am currently breathing.

My health concern yesterday was about West Nile. This is a more common disease.

Relatives suggested Paxlovid, and I developed a low-grade fever (99.7), so I called.
The nurse called back after two hours. (I was not on hold - they put my number in a queue. Try not to get sick on a holiday weekend). She was surprised at how few meds I take for a person my age. She said to take Tylenol for the fever, and call back if it doesn't go down, or particularly if it goes over 102. But she also implied that after five days, no fever means I'm probably good to go. That's a little weird. If you're keeping your fever down with drugs, how can you tell you're fever-free?
Rest and fluids, like almost any other sickness. She was willing to make a video appointment for me in the morning to talk to someone else about Paxlovid, but thought I'd be OK without it. Call back right away if I start wheezing or become short of breath. I don't think I've ever wheezed, so I would be happy to go the rest of my life without it.
She said I was the second person she had spoken to this afternoon whose first case this is. Hail to thee, other covid-conscious person! Also, what the heck is it about this strain? About to take my temperature again and then eat soup, as is traditional.
