Chuseok/Hangawi Autumn moon festival! It's over in Asia because it's already tomorrow there, but I am planning a little feast by myself. Maybe I'll update with a photo later. I am not wearing hanbok (I don't own any relevant garment), but had the thought during my haircut this morning that if I start growing it out tomorrow, it might be long enough for a fancy hairstyle to go with a rented outfit the next time I'm in Korea. What next time?

Partial lunar eclipse night here in Massachusetts (only a little bit of the very big moon with be in the shadow, but there are again no clouds, so I plan to look at about 10:44 PM).

Feast day of Hildegard of Bingen. I don't actually believe that all will be well, but she wrote some nice music.

(no, one can't compost them).

I was vaguely aware that today as Sustainable Lexington day at the Farmers' Market, but I didn't really pay attention to the details. One of the booths was for a business that takes electronics for reuse (when possible) or recycling. At least, they recycle the metal parts therein. People were bringing tubs full of stuff. I had already been twice (once to buy produce, once to drop off the scythe at the sharpening tent), so I'm not going back with all the dead or dying devices, but I got their card. It's possible to make an appointment for drop-off in Waltham.

I told the person at the all-electric house booth that I want something that doesn't exist - I want to keep my hot water iron radiators but not use oil. She said there is such a system, and she'll track down a company that does it. That would be amazing if true. My plan for this coming winter is to keep the house as cold as I can stand it and track the oil use in parallel with degree day readings. But if I ever start to advertise for a housemate or two, a 50 degree house* might not sound attractive. That all seems very hypothetical when it's 83 degrees outside as I type, but I am aware that winter will be colder, if only because there will be fewer hours of sun.

*last winter I kept it at 58 degrees most of the time when I was alone, and just turned it up to 64 when Flo was visiting. There is more insulation now and a couple of better windows. If it doesn't feel drafty in the house, maybe I can get used to a lower thermostat setting.

lauradi7dw: me wearing a straw hat and gray mask (anniversary)

Some of it is standard for a Chuseok meal (japchae, jeon, the sweets). After I set it up I saw the claim that a peach shouldn't be used as one of the fruits. Oh well, it's not my culture. I miss my parents but I'm not doing this in memory of them.
Why *am* I doing this? It was yummy, but it was also sad to be eating it alone. On the other side of the world (and probably in some households in my area) it's a family holiday.
I was also thinking about the 100 mile diet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_100-Mile_Diet
All the fresh produce was from the farmers' market. The noodles, desserts, vegan bulgogi, and the pancake came from Korea.

The sky turned out to be partly cloudy this evening but the moon was easy to see. The thought I had when I saw the partial shadow was that it looked like the moon had on a little hat.
