Deja vu all over again?
Sep. 18th, 2024 08:45 pmIn December 1995/January 1996 we were in Hawaii for a long-planned trip. I don't remember the precise dates but we were in Honolulu on New Year's Eve and attended their version of First Night, no warm hats or mittens needed.
I always think of that as "the time Bob Dole shut down the government." (it happened twice in a short period of time). We followed the B&B lady's directions to sneak into Hawaii Volcanoes national park (walking down the service road) but by the time we got to Maui and wanted to visit Haleakalā, the national park service had tightened things up. I'm planning to visit Acadia NP around the 19-21 of October. If the government shuts down on the 1st, will that mess me up again? I understand that my problems are small compared to those of many people who will be affected by a shutdown, but I've had a variety of bad luck this year (plus a few very good things and many neutral ones).
