Small business Saturday
Nov. 30th, 2024 06:19 pmThis year I made an effort to shop at some small businesses. I bought a (very thin book? pretty big pamphlet?) about Revere bells at the Paul Revere House gift shop. It's the 2018 revision of a 1987 book I had as a PDF (?) on an old laptop.
In Lexington, I bought some yarn and a pattern at the new knitting shop. I bought a stack of books at Maxima to donate to the toy and book drive at the Tai Chi studio (an annual thing). I refilled my laundry detergent bottle at Center Goods. I didn't go to Tatte, but I mean to do so soon to support them - when I rode past on the bus this morning, it was barely up to freezing outside but a table of warmly dressed customers were being served on an outside table. Yay for the breakfasters, yay for the business going along with it, and leaving their tables out.
Not everything is available small and local. When I filled up a shopping cart with socks and underwear and warm things for shelter donations earlier this month, I went to Marshall's instead.
