Today was day 25 of rowing 5000 meters in the month of March, so I have a PDF of a certificate for completing the Mud Season Madness 2025. Sometimes I succumb to artificial motivation of that sort. Tomorrow I will cut back on meters rowed and start upping my jogging miles for a few weeks, getting ready for a race. After that, I don't know what will make me do long bouts of aerobic exercise, but maybe I'll think of something.
Yesterday a grad student at Tufts was snatched by ICE for having written a pro-Palestinian article in the campus newspaper. She's at least still in the US (was flown to Louisiana)

as opposed to those Venezuelans who were sent to El Salvador at our taxpayers' expense.

I went for a little while to a large protest about Rumeysa Ozturk (the Tufts student) in Somerville. I left the house later than I'd planned, because I was dealing with a nosebleed (it happens. It's annoying, but at least I was awake. The worst is when I'm in bed and get blood on the pillowcase). It didn't matter - I wasn't planning to stay for the whole thing anyway. I walked two circuits of the park and saw a couple of people I knew (but not everybody I expected to - the crowd was dense). I was a bit annoyed that some of the chants and posters focused on Palestinians - I think the IDF and Netanyahu are murderers too, but it felt to me that people were being sidetracked. The point is that while ICE has been picking up people based on almost nothing since at least Obama's time, there used to be a court hearing before people were removed. No due process seems to be happening now.
The American College of gastroenterology streamed a patchwork quilt of a concert (many artists, all pre-taped) to raise awareness of colorectal cancer. They didn't seem to be fund-raising. I only knew about it because someone linked to it online - did they really get much publicity?
One of the performers was Rufus Wainwright. I was startled to see that he has a gray beard, but he's 52 - I had some gray hair at that age. I remember when he was a baby. This is not someone I know, but he was a celebrity in some circles soon after his birth - "Dilated to meet you" by his parents
