What does "recorded human history" mean?

The explanation of today's Astronomy Picture of the Day claims that 10,000 years ago is before recorded human history.
Does that mean text, using words? Aboriginal rock paintings in Australia (using ochre or other pigments) have been dated to 25,000 years ago, or considerably earlier, and the cave paintings in France may be 35,000 years old. At a minimum, I'd think that we can get some of the messages conveyed, like "We saw these animals. Animals are cool."
I have been thinking of starting to tweet, because I have several thoughts a day that I consider putting here on LJ, but they tend to be fairly short, or just links. But who would follow me?

Neil deGrasse Tyson is https://twitter.com/neiltyson
Some people tweet an inordinate amount, but others are more sporadic - a friend of Arthur's writes for the Globe. During the marathon bombing excitement, he was tweeting almost around the clock, but he's only tweeted twice in May.
The bees on the roof of the new NPR building tweet (in a buzzy way)
