The squash squeezing against the Black eyed Susans has put out a product, which looks like a tiny patty-pan. I noticed today that there is an avocado plant growing in the compost bin.* I suppose I should re-pot it somewhere.
* is this a good place to segue to my recent favorite Old English word? I saw it used in the Christmas story as told in Luke, translated as "manger." It's "binn." I like the idea that a thousand years ago it meant a box of hay, and now, at least in my yard, it means a box of other formerly growing plants, or in one case, a currently growing plant.

I paid the landscape guy from across the street to flatten the lumpy part of the yard next to the driveway, thinking it would require elaborate landscaping equipment. He used a shovel and rake. I have a shovel and rake, so I might have been able to do it myself, but at least it's flat now. Next is the decision about a bench, or something else. Maybe a squash patch.
