The mouth and ankle injury correlation

No, not foot and mouth disease, fortunately.
A bit more than a month ago, I came away from an endodontist with a tooth prepared for a new crown, and extreme jaw pain. Almost a week later I noticed what looked like a bruise on the jawline. Did he lean hard on me, or what? My regular dentist suggested the possibility that it was a muscle spasm, not the actual TM joint.
(Update - not much pain, still don't have normal range of motion in terms of opening my mouth, so there is a face PT appointment on the 11th).
Warned by medlineplus.gov, I was not surprised by the bruisy appearance after the ankle injury, but I was a little surprised that it was red on the lateral side and purple on the medial side. The ankle is well enough that I have been walking a lot (slowly, carefully, but not with the elastic ankle brace). No visible improvement on the discoloration. Now the bruises after the respective injuries are reminding me of each other. Not regular bruises so much as the after-effect of muscle tissue damage?
