Susannah Scaroni won the women's wheelchair division of the NYC marathon with a very speedy time of 1:48 (and some seconds). The TV commentator pointed out that she has enlarged the circumference of her push rim and "that increased the stride length." She's not actually striding, but I guess it's clear enough. Physics, or something. I don't often use google for search but I was irritated that I couldn't find immediate results on duckduckgo so I went to google. Popped up immediately, mostly in updates from the NYT. Hmm.
All the running on feet elites and the first couple of waves are currently running. The 5th wave of regular folks won't even start until 11:30, three hours after the elites, so when I start a local race at 12:15, I'll be running (in spirit) with the 50,000 marathoners on a different course. The elite runners will have finished before the last wave starts.

I ran the Bob Ludwig memorial "almost 10 k" in 1:12. The per mile pace was under 12 minutes, proportionally a lot faster than the half marathon pace (as it should be). It wasn't fast compared to other people - I finished 204th out of 215 people. (coincidentally, my bib number was 202. Maybe I should have sped up a tiny bit to have them match, but I didn't know). My body feels that I pushed it too hard.
