It's almost a year of living alone in the house, with the thermostat set in the 50s. I have looked back at the oil bills, and at the temperature ranges. The tank in theory holds about 200 gallons, but I never let it get empty (I call the oil company when it's at 1/4), so the usual delivery is between 175 & 180 gallons.
The first delivery of 2024 was January 10, 180 gallons. Barely over a month later, February 15, 181 gallons. That's 6 gallons a day, yikes. January had some above-freezing days (and a few nights) but there was only one day that got to be as warm as inside the chilly house.
The next delivery was April 2, 174 gallons, so somewhat under 4 gallons a day for that time period.
Then the next delivery was this week, 179 gallons. Parts of April and May, parts of November and December, so closer to 2 gallons a day? Very iffy calculations.
The water in the house is heated by the sun for part of the year, otherwise I have the electric tank on for two hours a day. The oil system is not responsible for that kind of warmness.
There is no gas in the house, so I don't worry about that kind of fossil power.
I don't have air conditioning, but do use electricity for many things (like the laptop I'm typing on, for example).
