lauradi7dw: me wearing a straw hat and gray mask (anniversary)

I had something of a goal list a month ago

So how did it go?
Dance show (as mentioned in passing on the 8th) was good enough.

The Concept2 challenge went past with minimal participation on my part - the stated goal of the challenge was 100,000 meters or more rowed between Thanksgiving and Christmas eve. Of the average 3333 meters a day that would have been needed to accomplish that, I actually rowed more like 500 a day. It's OK.

I sold ten trees plus the one I bought for myself. This involved taking payment, sawing off the bottom of the tree, and making cheerful small talk. People showed up wanting a tree - I was not there to persuade.

The Northampton/Greenfield weekend happened, and was nice. It wasn't a good test of my attention span, because the ringing ended early

The Korean traditional music performance was pleasant. I was part of the pungmul group, but we were not the only ones - the concert started with Ajaeng

and Gayageum
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gayageum
I had never seen either in real life (as opposed to in videos). One of the instructors let me touch the strings of an ajaeng. They are made of silk.
My janggu teacher, who leads the pungmul group, cautioned the audience that we would be loud. This style of music originated in farming communities and I guess was meant to be heard from a distance. The social hall of the church where the performance was held is low-ceilinged and has a linoleum floor. The volume would be substantial anywhere, but as warned, it was LOUD. I used earplugs. The older brother (?) of one of the gayageum students stuck his fingers in his ears for our part.
My colleagues were congratulatory. They asked if I had been nervous. No. The audience was entirely made up of the friends and relatives of the performers, so they came in wanting to be supportive, not judgmental, and I only did the parts that I could manage.
I have returned my rented drum and borrowed costume. The next session doesn't start until March, I think, so I have time to consider whether or not to continue.

Including the reception after the performance, I have attended four parties (for various definitions of party) in nine days. As previously mentioned, I ate outdoors on Christmas eve. I didn't eat at all during the other ones, staying masked throughout. I did come home smelling slightly of latke oil after the Chanukah party, as is traditional.

Very weirdly for me, the only early music I listened to in December was [personal profile] choco_frosh singing a Gregorian chant (?) in the ringing room on Christmas day. There are some days remaining until 12th night, so maybe I will pull out some albums.

Not all the donations I meant to make got done. Cards were sent and received.
