Late September this year I was in someone's backyard as a performer

I'm not very skilled* and I don't practice much, but I didn't drag down the quality level, and it was kind of fun.
The director arranged the set list to include two sections of audience participation. The audience, which was mostly there for the rock band after us, was appreciative and the audience volunteers did a good job. A sense of rhythm helps in many types of music.
* and I don't like sitting on the floor/ground. Sitting on a chair (in this case a folding stool) isn't unheard of, though.
