Oscar benefits
Feb. 16th, 2007 08:26 pmI went to see "The Lives of Others" this afternoon.

I presume I would have seen it eventually anyway - it's been extremely well reviewed, and one of the main characters was played by Martina Gedeck, whom we liked a lot in "Mostly Martha." It's not clear that I would have had three theaters to choose from if it weren't the favorite to win Best Foreign Film in a week or so.
At a 3:30 weekday show there were more than 30 people, of whom about a third stayed through the entire credits. Apparently the German phrase for location scout is "Location Scout."
It was longish (2:17) but never dragged.
I had tried previously to put it in my Netflix queue but they had it in the "saved" category because they don't actually own in on DVD. That's understandable, as it's fairly new, but it's galling to me that the 2nd season of Dr Who (with David Tenant) is in the same category - it's available to buy in stores, why not to rent on Netflix? I've had a lot of trouble with them anyway - a couple of wrong discs, a couple of lost discs (although the latter could be the fault of the Lexington Post
Office, I suppose). I just wish my local video stores would carry all the stuff I want.
