There is a long and useful post today at Making Light about immunizations and the diseases prevented thereby. Mostly it's text, but he has a link to the sound of a kid with pertussis.
Yikes.

On page 7 (of 28!) of the Television without pity recap of last week's BSG episode, there is the line "Have you read Neuromancer?" I answered (out loud) "I have. Probably everyone who watches Battlestar Gallactica has read it." After some thought, though, that's probably not true. I suppose it is possible that only I and the innumerable teenage boys who used Neuromancer as a screen name while posting ignorant self-indulgent stuff to usenet groups in the early 1990s have read it.
Reading TWOP isn't the same as writing a lab report. Unless it is. When I start being the go-to person to explain statistics to people we know that the world has turned upside down anyway.

We began studying OCD in psych class today. When asked to name an athlete with the disorder, many people in the room came up with Nomar Garciaparra. When challenged to demonstrate why we thought so, I was the only person willing to get up to impersonate him. The teacher was pleased with my portrayal, but despite having offered a quarter to anybody who did it, he didn't give me one. If he had offered extra credit I bet half the people in the room would have volunteered. To be fair, most of them would have been in their early teens when NG left the Boston area, so they might not remember the ritual very well.
