taken aback
Aug. 2nd, 2009 05:07 pmIn a report about the gunman who opened fire in a center for gay teens in Tel Aviv, the NPR reported remarked "hate crimes are almost unknown in Israel." Huh? It's my impression that there are frequent murders based on religious and nationalist hatred there, but apparently those are either terrorism or police/army actions. I understand the motivation to classify something as a hate crime, but sometimes I think it muddies the other crime categories.
