Finally, a cat post
Jul. 2nd, 2014 09:22 amI have been composing posts for almost a week (I'm up to about five now) but thought that I could at least do a quick one right now.
The song "The Internet is for Porn" from the musical Avenue Q has always seemed incorrect to me - the internet is for cats, mostly. I am not really a cat person so I haven't participated in that, but I have just begun following the tumblr Saving Room For Cats http://savingroomforcats.tumblr.com/
I gather this was inspired by men taking up too much space on the train (both a concept and another tumblr). I found the references to both in this article
http://changefromwithin.org/2014/06/26/10-ways-men-can-combat-sexist-entitlement-in-public/
which I think everybody should read as well, but it isn't mostly about cats (thanks to
amaebi for the link).
I don't get hit on in public, really, but I had a weird experience last week. My hair is now, as someone said yesterday "teal," fading from bright green. A guy (total stranger, approximately my age) came up to me and made a remark about the blue haired ladies of our youth. I explained about the green fading to blue phenomenon I experience with the Manic Panic green dye. He said "It's sexy." I was flustered. In retrospect, I would have told him that that was an inappropriate remark, after which I suspect he would have informed me that it was a compliment (I'm fine with total strangers telling me they like my hair - I get that from a wide variety of people). This was at a gathering of UUs, so I suspect he also considers himself egalitarian in some way. He should know better, but no. Also, now that I think of it - does he find Marge Simpson sexy? The aforementioned old ladies? That's none of my business.
