On Sunday's episode, the Doctor and friends showed up on the evening that the challenge was issued that eventually became Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein."
After that (different network) was an episode of "Sanditon," the extension, shall we say, of Jane Austen's unfinished final novel. Both books (F & S) were written in 1817, more or less. I had never thought of Jane and Mary being contemporaries. Jane was twice Mary's age in 1817, but they were both alive and writing (until Jane became too ill to write, and then died). I have found Sanditon frustrating and annoying, but it showed us bathing machines and rowboat races and people working toward the abolition of slavery. And a fair amount of usual JA stuff, written by Andrew Davies.
I am wondering whether to go see the new "Emma." It claims to be faithful to the novel, but from the trailer, I'm not convinced. My favorite adaptation was the 1996 version with Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong
