Most Patriot's Day mornings we have pancakes at the local Baptist church (there are multiple pancake breakfast locations in Lexington, to fund-raise by feeding the people who are attending the re-enactment and/or parades). We picked them because they use real serving ware (not plastic). This year all PD events in Massachusetts have been cancelled, so I am sending a small check to the church to make up for the loss of our business. I am sending a somewhat larger check to the Chinese American Association of Lexington, who have been and are continuing to buy PPE from somewhere in China to be spread around to local nursing homes and clinics. I am still pondering which of the innumerable go fund me and local fund raisers to contribute to. Blue Heron is sponsoring one specifically for out of work vocalists. I should join lots of museums.
My donation plan for the spring *was* going to be political, trying to flip the Senate, but since so many primaries are being postponed and many campaigns are quite low-key now, it has mostly slipped from my attention, although I am sending money today to Jamie Harrison, who is running against Lindsey Graham in SC.
Interesting but a little disturbing, I have bought a membership in this year's Worldcon, which is hypothetically in Wellington New Zealand, but has been changed to being online. I don't think I've ever spent NZ dollars before. The disturbing part is that when I went to pay, it auto-filled the credit card information. With a couple of exceptions, I always tell organizations/businesses not to keep my card on file. The number that showed up is no longer functional anyway, but it's the principle of the thing. I joined in the Sad Puppy year(2015, Spokane?) in order to vote for other writers, so I guess WorldCon as an ongoing entity kept my card all this time. Harrumph.
