lauradi7dw: me wearing a straw hat and gray mask (anniversary)
In the summer and environs, the Saturday morning Tai Chi class has been at Seven Hills Park for more than sixteen years. There are times that the park is reserved for something else. In the past, that just meant that class was inside, but that won't work this year. For a couple of Saturdays in October, we'll need to find another park. The instructor suggested Danehy park. The name didn't mean anything to me. I said "Is that the XKCD park?" Classmate responded "No, the XKCD park is [whatever its name is]. Danehy is the one that was a dump when we were kids." I said "Oh, by Fresh Pond." Despite the "Assume nothing" rule, I assumed that at least one other person (out of nine who were not me) would know what I was talking about. Yup. The person who understood right away assumed that a dump behind the Fresh Pond shopping plaza was part of a shared childhood. He is at least five years younger than I am, and I wasn't living here at the time it was an active dump, but I knew exactly where he meant. https://blog.xkcd.com/2007/10/01/the-meetup/ I could have sworn that I posted about it at the time, with photos of bellringers and square dancers attending, but I looked back through my archive, and it's not there. I did find this photo of the ringers on flickr, which I haven't used in years. https://www.flickr.com/photos/63005968@N00/1432841982/in/photostream/
